MARK WATKINS

Mark is CEO and co-founder of Goby. As the company leader, Mark is at the core of shaping Goby's search engine services. Mark's inspiration to start Goby is rooted in his passion for creating interesting ways for people to find and explore information about how to spend their free time. Prior to starting Goby, Mark led Engineering & Professional Services for Endeca, a provider of search and information access solutions for the online arms of companies such as Borders, IBM and American Express.

Before that, Mark held various executive leadership positions for technology companies such as Parametric Technology, a leader in engineering collaboration, data management and 3D design, and Evans & Sutherland, an early computer graphics pioneer.

Mark has a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah, is the co-holder of a patent, and has published a number of articles in peer-reviewed technical journals. During his free time, Mark is an avid outdoorsman, music fan and culture buff who uses Goby to find new backpacking trails and historic sites to tour, and to feed his eclectic (ok, "odd") music addictions.

VINCE RUSSO

Vince is Goby's CTO and co-founder. He is responsible for architecting Goby's search functionality and for ensuring ease of use, as well as for driving product developments as they relate to the company vision.

Prior to co-founding Goby, Vince was CTO with Reprise Media, a leading full service search engine marketing firm. Prior to joining Reprise Media, Vince served as entrepreneur in residence at Highland Capital Partners, where he advised on the firm's investment in Quigo Technologies. He also has held chief architect positions for all Terra-Lycos properties, including Lycos, HotBot Search, Quote.com and Tripo, where he developed technologies for search, billing, service infrastructure and data mining.

Vince holds a Ph.D. in computer science from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and was Assistant Professor at Purdue University for seven years.

MICHAEL STONEBRAKER

Michael is a Goby co-founder. He is a pioneer in database and research technology, with more than twenty-five years of experience in the space.

Over his career, Michael has been both a professor and leading architect for prototype development at leading institutions such as University of California at Berkley and M.I.T. Additionally, Michael has authored scores of research papers on data base technology, operating systems and the architecture of system software services.

Michael has received industry recognition from the ACM System Software Award, the first annual Innovation award by the ACM SIGMOD special interest group, and the IEEE John von Neumann Medal. He's also has been recognized by Computer Reseller News as one of the top five software developers of the century and was named as one of the top eight industry innovators by Forbes Magazine in 1998.

Michael was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1998 and is presently an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at M.I.T. He is also the founder of seven software startups.

MUJDE PAMUK

Mujde Pamuk is a product architect and co-founder of Goby. Before joining Goby, she worked as a research scientist at Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research focused on databases, deep web search and natural language processing.

She holds a Master's degree in Engineering Systems from MIT.

JOHN WALSH

John is Senior Vice President for Goby. John oversees business development and is responsible for the company's distribution partner relationships and sales initiatives. John's travel background and recognition of the need for a better search tool for the highly fragmented "things to do" and alternative lodging segments inspired him to join Goby.

John comes to Goby with fifteen years of experience leading marketing, partner development and supplier relations for National Leisure Group (NLG) which was acquired by World Travel Holdings (WTH) in 2006. While at WTH, one of the nation's largest distributors of leisure travel, John led the company's strategy and shift from traditional advertising to online marketing. Additionally, he has cultivated distribution partnerships with dozens of brands including Priceline, Hotwire, Orbitz and Kayak.

John holds a Master's degree and undergraduate degree from Babson College. During his free time, John enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and three little boys. He frequently uses Goby to discover new biking trails, beaches and kid friendly events.

JIM FELL

Jim Fell is Vice President of Product Strategy at Goby. He is responsible for product innovation, developing and refining the user experience, and growing the brand. Jim is passionate about new ventures, creative approaches to solving problems, and working with small teams on big ideas.

Jim brings to Goby over a decade of experience developing web-based products that are both attractive and easy-to-use. Prior to joining Goby, Jim led product strategy efforts at Hobnox, an online entertainment and publishing platform based in Germany. As the Vice President of Product Design, Jim launched digital media projects for high-profile entertainment clients including Experience Hendrix and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Before that, Jim led design teams for Lycos product launch and partnership initiatives which included Wired News, Disney ABC Family, and Ask.com. In a past life, he held senior design positions with companies at their startup stages including Ziggs.com and Homeportfolio.com.

During his free time, Jim enjoys exploring Boston, but also looks forward to "quieter" weekend escapes involving either a beach, a mountain or even better--both.

NICK CHIN

Nick Chin is responsible for Information Organization at Goby. His work concentrates on the collection of web content, the category hierarchy, and source site metadata.

Prior to joining Goby, Nick worked at Harvard University Libraries, University of Maryland Libraries, and PBS before earning his Masters in Library and Information Science from Simmons College. Among the topics he studied were digital libraries, cataloging, metadata, and database design.

Nick also has a double degree in English Literature and Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park.

RICH STILLMAN

Rich Stillman is part of the Content team at Goby. He has worked in various IT roles at, among other places, Harvard Business School, CSC Consulting's Applied Technology Group, Raytheon and eMac Digital, the technology branch of McDonald's Restaurants.

Rich has consulted and presented on mobility strategy, and is responsible for the rainbows at Harvard Business School's chapel. Also of note, he was one of the first thousand people on the Internet.

JACOB NOVERO

Jacob Novero is responsible for the web development at Goby. He brings six years of technical experience, covering a wide range of web products. He deftly avoids to avoid the "jack-of-all-trades" label, he consistently takes on the entire spectrum of web-dev initiatives: from design to object abstraction to database administration.

Jacob enjoys listening to industrial music to the rhythm of his key-strokes. On his free time he enjoys literature, building scale models, running, tennis and, however mundane, mowing lawns.

BRIAN DEL VECCHIO

Brian Del Vecchio is a web applications developer with 8 years experience building web applications for the consumer web and enterprise markets. Before moving to web applications, Brian spent 18 years building internet infrastructure products for DataPower/IBM, Ascend Communications and Novell.

A passionate citizen of cyberspace, Brian has been active in online communities ranging from the dialup BBS era through Usenet, The WELL, Slashdot, Reddit, and dozens of specialized communities.

A native of the Maryland suburbs of DC, Brian lived in the San Francisco area for 10 years before moving to Boston. After 10 years in Boston, the winter weather has begun to grow on him. Brian is a fan of British comedy, electronic music, World Cup soccer, Vietnamese food, fish tacos, and a good Martini.

EMILY BAILLIEUL

Emily Baillieul is responsible for online marketing at Goby. Before joining Goby she worked as an online marketing manager for Cheapflights.com. She has a nine years experience in online marketing focusing on customer acquisition, online partnerships, and consumer sales.

In addition to working, Emily enjoys very long walks in unfamiliar cities and traveling the world looking for great new places to eat and drink.

CHIP HAZARD BOARD OF DIRECTORS, MEMBER

Chip is a General Partner at Flybridge Capital Partners whose investment interests and experience broadly cover companies and technologies in the information technology sector. He currently represents the firm on the boards of 1-800-FREE411 (Jingle Networks), First Best Systems, Infobright, mValent, Placemark, Reveal Imaging, Sciformix and Supplyscape and was previously a director at Bowstreet, which was acquired by IBM.

Before joining the firm in May 2002, Chip was a General Partner with Greylock Partners, a leading venture capital firm he joined in 1994. While at Greylock, Chip led or participated in numerous successful investments in the enterprise information technology field including Narrative Communications (acquired by @Home), Idiom Technologies (acquired by SDL), iPhrase Technologies (acquired by IBM), IBA (acquired by ServiceSoft/Kana), Storage Networks (IPO), Totality (acquired by MCI) and the Vincam Group (IPO in 1996, acquired by ADP). Prior to Greylock, he was with Company Assistance Limited, an investment and consulting firm in Warsaw Poland; and Bain and Company, an international management consulting firm.

Chip received a BA with honors from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School where he was a Baker Scholar and a Ford Scholar. He is married with four children. Chip enjoys spending time with his children mentoring their various sporting activities. He is also a regular tennis player.

ANDY PALMER BOARD OF DIRECTORS, MEMBER

Andy Palmer is a Goby co-founder and specializes in building the foundation and continuing the growth of successful start-ups. Andy's strategic perspective and tactical execution are well-suited for Goby's business environment.

Known for his winning track record as a serial entrepreneur, Andy has used his strategic perspective and tactical execution to launch five successful start-ups over the last 15 years.

In early 2005, Andy co-founded Vertica Systems, a company that developed a database engine specifically designed for data warehousing and cloud computing. Prior to co-founding Vertica, Andy served as the Senior Vice President of Operations and CIO at Infinity Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: INFI) where he was a member of the initial startup team. Additionally, Andy held executive positions at Bowstreet (acquired by IBM) and pcOrder.com (acquired by Trilogy).

Andy obtained his MBA from the Tuck School of Business and his undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors at Goby, Andy currently sits on the Board of Directors of the following innovative early stage companies: CloudSwitch, Vertica Systems, BlueFin Labs, N-of-One and VoltDB.

JO TANGO BOARD OF DIRECTORS, MEMBER

Jo Tango founded Kepha Partners. He has invested in the e-commerce, search engine, Internet ad network, wireless, supply chain software, storage, database, security, on-line payments and data center virtualization spaces.

He has been a founding or first institutional investor in AutoVirt, Azuki Systems, Bit9, ByLedge, ExaGrid, StreamBase Systems, Vertica Systems, and Virtual Iron, getting involved nearly always at the company inception phase. Other investments include Ask Jeeves (Nasdaq: ASKJ), Digital Market (acquired by Agile Software), and NextCard (Nasdaq: NXCD).

Jo previously was at Highland Capital Partners for nearly 9 years, where he was a General Partner. He also spent five years with Bain & Company, where he was based in Singapore, Hong Kong and Boston, and focused on technology and start-up projects.

Jo attended Yale University (B.A., summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa) and Harvard Business School (M.B.A., Baker Scholar). He serves on the board of NECINA (New England Chinese Information and Network Association) and is very active with the MIT Deshpande Center. He has served as Co-Chair of his Harvard Business School class 5th, 10th and 15th reunions. Jo was born in Indonesia.

BONNIE TAFFER ADVISORY BOARD, MEMBER

Bonnie Taffer has spent over two decades developing and leading breakthrough marketing initiatives for both established and emerging companies.

She is currently principal of her own marketing consultancy, BT Consulting, specializing in digital innovation, creative partnering, non-traditional channel development, sponsorship marketing and strategic management of cross-discipline creative agencies.

Prior to establishing her consulting business, Bonnie spent nearly 20 years at American Express, with a five year interregnum in which she pursued several entrepreneurial opportunities, including founding and serving as CMO of a venture funded media start up based in New York. While at American Express, she developed the Platinum Card Fine Hotel and Resorts Program, created award winning social media, broadcast and digital content programs, negotiated strategic marketing alliances with leading media companies such as Time Warner and maximized the value of celebrity talent relationships for the company's advertising campaigns.

PHIL CARPENTER ADVISORY BOARD, MEMBER

Phil Carpenter oversees Allison & Partners' San Francisco office, where he is responsible for providing strategic counsel to clients, managing the firm's practice groups, and cultivating new business.

Prior to joining Allison & Partners, Phil served as Vice President of Marketing for Simply Hired, a popular search engine for job seekers. Before this, he was Vice President of Corporate Marketing for travel search engine SideStep. In this role, Phil created a new category and defined its leading brand. As the company's marketing leader, Phil was responsible for positioning, public relations, partner marketing and online marketing and helped to drive annual revenues from zero to more than $20 million during his tenure. The company was recently sold to Kayak Software for $200 million.

Phil is the author of eBrands (Harvard Business School Press) and has written for publications that range from USAToday.com to the Japanese edition of The Harvard Business Review. Phil is a frequent speaker at marketing and technology events and has taught marketing classes for the Stanford University Continuing Studies Program. He received an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School and a B.A. from Stanford University.

JASPER MALCOLMSON ADVISORY BOARD, MEMBER

Jasper Malcolmson spent five years at Yahoo! working on bringing the most relevant information, Jasper Malcolmson is the CEO/Founder of Bloomspot (www.bloomspot.com), a website about expert recommendations for products like beauty, wine, travel, gourmet and books.

Prior to Bloomspot, Jasper spent five years at Yahoo! working on bringing the most relevant information, products and deals to consumers. Jasper was the VP, Product for Yahoo! Search, as well as VP/GM of the Yahoo! Commerce Division. Particularly on his work on Yahoo! Travel and Yahoo! Shopping, Jasper's passion was using a combination of social and algorithmic methods to find the best deals from across the web.

Jasper started his career at McKinsey & Co, and was educated at Princeton and Harvard Business School.
