Lake Surprise is in the Watchung Reservation My wife and I learned of this lake from this website despite living many years only ten miles away. On our first visit (6/22/06)it seemed choked with weeds but a pleasant walk along it showed nice, open spots. Our second visit four days later had us about to unload our canoe and a county police officer pulled up and informed us we needed a boat permit.
